ADAPTIVE REUSE | WORKPLACE DESIGN
“The Ford Foundation supports visionary leaders and organizations on the front lines of social change world wide.”
This esteemed organization has offices all over the world and its headquarters in New Delhi was originally designed by the renowned firm Stein Doshi and Bhalla. This iconic building has exquisite detailing, use of traditional materials, work spaces and history. The present day office required a redesign of its interior spaces to cater to its modern day use. The site is located in close proximity to the historic Lodhi Monuments and thus an intervention was made strategically keeping the building envelope unchanged. The challenge was to leave the historic exterior untouched while reusing the interior spaces.
The project focussed on giving the users a new and improved work environment without disturbing the building and its historic architectural features. The construction drawings were prepared using existing references and the reuse was planned to be an “addition” that seamlessly fits into the context and will prolong the life of this historic building for many more years to come.
This project allowed me to gain experience in on-site construction management, client communication, presentations and Reuse strategies using existing spacial configurations.
The Project was completed in 2012.
