The Palads Theater is a historical landmark in the cultural district of Copenhagen, Denmark. The building has a very well defined building facade with a baroque sensibility.
The design studio looked at reviving the historic building using architecture as a tool. The relation of this buildings facade to the exterior plaza space was particularly interesting. Upon further study it was observed that the ‘Non- reactive’ nature of this facade with the exterior space was the area that needed intervention.
In maintaining the historic character of the building, the original functions were retained & a public museum, cafe and other spaces were proposed to enhance interaction of the inside outside and between the users. The building was opened up and connected to the plaza & thus the city. The building section was designed to bring the outside inside.
